Grounded. Affirming. Evidence-based.

Therapy Sessions
Welcome

Kia ora, I’m Harriet — a senior registered mental health nurse and therapist with over 12 years’ experience supporting people through complex mental health and relationship challenges. I offer therapy for adults, couples, and families — both in-person in Auckland and online anywhere in Aotearoa.

My work is informed by evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, DBT-PE, Gottman Method and Family-Based Therapy. I am also currently training in EMDR

I have specialist experience in:

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Eating disorders and recovery

  • Personality vulnerability and emotional regulation

  • Neurodiversity (ADHD, autism)

  • Relationship and family dynamics

  • Queer and gender-diverse wellbeing

I bring both professional expertise and lived experience in queer and neurodivergent communities. My approach is warm, direct, and collaborative — supporting you to feel seen, understood, and equipped for change.

Harriet Sims

My Approach

I’ve worked in mental health for over 12 years across crisis services, community mental health, specialist mental health services and in private practice for the past 8 years, where I focus on helping people navigate life’s more complex emotional spaces.

I’m trained in several evidence-based modalities, including CBT, DBT and DBT-PE. I have experience supporting couples via the Gottman Method. I also specialise in working with people navigating eating disorders. I have specialist training in FBT and APT to support families with a young person struggling with an eating disorder. I am currently training in EMDR under supervision and currently available for new EMDR cases.

These approaches provide structure and safety while still leaving space for the human parts of therapy; the connection, humour, and gentleness that make change possible.

As a queer and neurodivergent clinician, I bring both professional knowledge and lived understanding to my work. I value diversity in how people think, feel, and relate and I aim to create a therapy space where you can bring your full self without needing to translate or edit who you are.

People often describe me as calm, honest, and easy to talk to. My goal is to offer a therapy relationship that feels safe enough to explore what’s hard, and practical enough to help you make real progress.
